Vivo’s New Phones Bring Big Camera Upgrades Worldwide

There is a lot to be said about lenses, even in tiny smartphone cameras. In its new flagship smartphones, the Vivo X100 and Vivo X100 Pro, Vivo emphasizes lens improvements. Initially released in China on November 13th, Vivo is now releasing them internationally with matching 6.78-inch 120Hz OLED screens.

The Vivo X100 Pro will have some great camera upgrades for taking clear, colorful photos. It has a very large 50-megapixel main camera with a special sensor, just like the X90 Pro before it. Vivo says this will help take consistent, sharp pictures. The telephoto lens also gets better – it now zooms in 4.3 times instead of 2 times, so you can capture subjects farther away with more detail. This new lens is designed to reduce blurred colors. There’s also a special floating lens part which helps take close-up shots with the zoom lens.

The regular X100 still has very good cameras too. The main one has 50 megapixels like the Pro. Its 64 megapixel telephoto can zoom 3 times. Both phones lenses have special coatings to take better pictures. The Pro version gets the newest rear-facing camera chip though, letting you record smooth 4K video portraits.

Inside, both phones use MediaTek’s top-of-the-line Dimensity 9300 processor. Even though one is the “lesser” model, they both have the large 6.78-inch screen. They are also protected from water and dust. So the main differences are in the improved cameras on the X100 Pro.

When tested against the popular Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Vivo’s X90 Pro showed promise but still had room for improvement. It seems Vivo focused on making lenses clearer this time. We’ll have to wait and see how the new X100 Pro performs against Samsung’s latest in a camera shootout. Vivo hasn’t shared exact European prices yet, but the X100 Pro should be around €937-€1,024 while the regular X100 is approx €702-€768. Overall, Vivo gives photographers more options with major camera improvements at an affordable price.
