Will OpenAI Make Their Own Smartphone?

Will OpenAI Make Their Own Smartphone?

In recent years, smartphone companies have begun exploring AI as a smartphone-adjacent technology, which makes sense. There are plenty of smart experiences available on today’s best smartphones thanks to on-device AI and machine learning. Is it possible for AI companies to dabble in smartphones if smartphone makers can? It appears that OpenAI’s CEO had similar thoughts, according to a new report.

OpenAI’s Plans for an AI Phone?

A new report says OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with famous Apple designer Jony Ive and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son. They talked about making a new kind of device. The report doesn’t give many details. But it could be an AI smartphone!

OpenAI is known for making ChatGPT, an AI that talks like a real person. Microsoft then gave them $10 billion to use in Bing searches. An AI phone would get their tech in more hands.

Smartphones today have AI to help take photos or get answers. Could OpenAI make a phone focused just on AI? It would be interesting to see their vision of an AI-first device. But we’ll have to wait to see if they really make one.

Would You Want an AI Phone From OpenAI?

OpenAI knows AI very well. Their phone could reimagine what we can do with smart assistants. But would it replace what we love about iPhones and Android phones? Only time will tell if they make a phone and if people want to try it. In the meantime, smartphone AI keeps getting better in small ways.
