Intel’s New Core Ultra Chips Bring Better Battery Life and AI Smarts to Laptops

Introducing Meteor Lake architecture for new “Core Ultra” processors for Windows laptops and Chromebooks, Intel has unveiled its next generation of mobile CPUs. Here are the improvements and the first machines to use the new chips.

Intel’s 14th generation Core chips, called Core Ultra, are an upgrade over previous versions. Instead of names like Core i7, they are called Core Ultra 5, 7, and 9. Core Ultra 7 is said to perform better than AMD and Apple chips. It also has a special part just for artificial intelligence (AI) tasks that makes AI up to 70% faster.

Battery life is also expected to be much better with Core Ultra chips. Core Ultra 7 should last 25% longer than older Intel chips and up to 79% longer than AMD’s similar chip. This means your laptop can go for much longer without needing a charge.

The new Core Ultra processors are available starting today for computer makers to use. Intel says over 230 different laptop and Chromebook models will have these chips this year from big brands like Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and more.

Some of the first laptops with Core Ultra chips available now include new models from Samsung, Acer, and Lenovo. Samsung’s updated Galaxy Book 4 laptops will have Intel’s new chips and be on sale early next year. Acer’s Swift Go laptop starts at $799 and offers up to 12.5 hours of battery with Core Ultra 5 or 7 chips. Lenovo’s ThinkPad and IdeaPad laptops will also use Core Ultra for better performance and longer battery life.

Intel’s new Core Ultra processors promise snappier speeds for things like artificial intelligence as well as much better battery life. Be on the lookout for these upgraded chips arriving in popular Windows and Chromebook laptops from all the big brands starting today.
