Samsung’s New S Pen “Creator Edition” – A More Comfortable Stylus for Artists

The new S Pen “Creator Edition” from Samsung is a pen primarily intended for writing and drawing on Galaxy tablets and smartphones. The redesigned stylus nib fits more smoothly into the pen’s body, while the broader form of the pen is meant to make it more comfortable. The “Creator Edition” is limited to white coloration and contains a single button for software interaction.

This upgraded S Pen was first announced alongside the Galaxy Tab S9 series back in July, but only recently became available for $99. With its thicker barrel shape resembling the popular Apple Pencil, the “Creator Edition” aims to provide Galaxy users with greater precision and comfort when creating artwork on their devices.

While the pen boasts Samsung’s most advanced tilt detection technology, it disappointingly lacks features found in other S Pens, like screen shortcuts. This is because—unlike battery-powered styles—the “Creator Edition” contains no power source and simply functions through direct screen contact. It can still magnetically attach to tablets for storage.

Strangely, Samsung only guarantees compatibility with phones, tablets, and laptops, not foldable devices. At $99 it also exceeds the pricing of alternative S Pens priced at $55-60. Early user reviews note lag issues and a cheaper feel. However, for artists, the enhanced design may outweigh missing functions.

As a specialized pen focused on comfort during long drawing sessions rather than smart capabilities, Samsung’s new $99 “Creator Edition” could be a suitable option for creative Galaxy users—provided its compromises do not outweigh the benefits to their workflows.
