Samsung Phones to Get Game-Changing AMD Graphics

Samsung Phones to Get Game-Changing AMD Graphics

Last year, Samsung offered the Exynos 2200 chipset in some Galaxy S22 series phones, bringing AMD graphics to modern smartphones. Galaxy S23 models are powered by Snapdragon, but rumors indicate that the Galaxy S24 family will feature Exynos and AMD graphics in some form. Now it seems AMD’s influence may spread even further across Samsung’s lineup.

Reliable leaker Revegnus claims Samsung’s upcoming mid-range Exynos processors will have AMD graphics. Specifically, the Exynos 1480 and 1430 chips are said to use AMD’s powerful RDNA technology.

This could mean great things for Samsung’s popular A-series phones like the Galaxy A53 and A33. Normally these budget devices use Mali graphics from ARM, but AMD graphics may supercharge their performance.

Don’t expect flagship-level gaming though. Revegnus warns not to have “overly high expectations” as the focus will be on photography, not playing games. AMD’s ray tracing is also unlikely at this level.

Still, any AMD inclusion is good news. Their graphics are more advanced than Mali and bring features we see on Windows/Apple computers. Better hardware combined with driver updates could make Samsung’s affordable phones much smoother.

2024 may be the year AMD elevates mid-range Android performance beyond what’s possible today. If rumors pan out, the Galaxy A54 and A35 launching next fall will be seriously powerful options.
