With MagSafe, Apple’s iPhones have offered wireless charging since 2020, allowing for magnetically attached accessories while facilitating easier wireless charging. Apple’s tablets may now be able to use this technology as well.
We may see magnetic wireless charging, also called MagSafe, come to the iPad Pro in 2024. A source who knows about the magnets Apple uses said the 2024 iPad Pro could have MagSafe. This would let you charge the iPad without wires by putting it on a charging pad. It would also let you attach accessories to the iPad using magnets.
iPads now have metal backs, which won’t work with wireless charging. A report says the 2024 iPad Pro may have a new design. The back would need to be glass or plastic to work with MagSafe charging. We don’t know what the new design will look like.
The source also said it’s possible the MagSafe could just be for wired charging, like on Mac computers. But MagSafe wireless charging, like on iPhones, would be handy for iPads too. You could use the same magnetic charging pads and accessories. Your iPad may also go into “standby mode” while charging with MagSafe, turning it into a big smart display!
Would magnetic wireless charging be useful on future iPads? Let us know your thoughts. It could make charging and adding accessories even easier.
