Apple Plans to Make Their iPad Lineup Easier to Understand

In terms of changing what people think tablets can do, Apple’s iPad has been very successful. While Android tablets have been around for a long time, only the iPad has stayed popular. However, because Apple wanted to offer different options at different price points, their iPad lineup got confusing compared to their iPhone, Apple Watch, and Mac lineups, which are simpler. In the coming months, though, Apple may launch new iPads to clarify their choices.

Currently, in 2023, Apple’s iPads range in price from $329 to over $1000. There are many different options at different price points, which can make it hard to pick one. For example, if your budget is $600-$700, there are six iPads you could choose from that are very similar. Also, not all accessories work with all iPads.

But reports say Apple plans changes for 2024 that may simplify things. They will likely make the iPad Air and iPad Pro models more different. The iPad Air may come in two new sizes, 10.9 and 12.9 inches, with updated chips to make them faster. The iPad Pro models will get even better chips and new designs to stay among the top iPads.

Once the new iPads launch, Apple will phase out older models like the 9th generation iPad. They will also stop supporting some older accessories. This should help lower the number of options while keeping useful choices. Later in 2024, after an 11th-generation regular iPad, their lineup may look like this:

  • 10th generation iPad
  • 11th generation iPad
  • Mini iPad
  • 10.9 and 12.9-inch iPad Air
  • 11 and 13-inch iPad Pro

While not the smallest lineup, separating the models more could help customers easily understand what each iPad offers. Only time will tell if Apple’s plan makes selecting an iPad simpler!
