The Changes in the New iMac (M1 iMac vs M3 iMac)

As part of its “Scary Fast” event on Monday, Apple also unveiled a new iMac. Despite the new M3 chip inside the new iMac, Apple’s all-in-one desktop computer looks pretty similar to its predecessor. Here are the differences between the M1 and M3 iMacs:

The most important change in the new iMac is the new M3 chip. This chip is faster than the M1 chip used in the previous iMac. It has been made with newer 3-nanometer technology, which means it uses less energy. The M3 chip is up to twice as fast as the M1 for tasks like editing videos or photos.

The new M3 chip has an improved graphics processor with more cores—up to 10 cores compared to 8 in the M1. This allows for better graphics and visual effects in games and creative work. The M3 iMac can also have up to 24GB of RAM for multitasking, compared to 16GB in the M1 model.

Apple upgraded the wifi and Bluetooth in the new iMac. It now has Wi-Fi 6E, which is faster and works on a newer wireless spectrum. Bluetooth was also improved to version 5.3 with better security.

Other than the updated chip, the design and display stayed the same. It still has a colorful 24-inch display and a thin design. Ports, cameras, speakers, and accessories also did not change.

In summary, the new M3 iMac received minor upgrades like a faster chip and improved connectivity. However, the overall design, display, and features are very similar to the previous M1 iMac. For anyone doing graphics-intensive work, the performance boost of the M3 may be worth the upgrade. But otherwise, it remains an incremental update to Apple’s popular all-in-one desktop.
