A flagship smartphone recently launched in China with 24GB of RAM, a crazy amount of RAM for a smartphone. It sounds like brands are already thinking about the next milestone.
According to Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station, 32GB RAM phones are being tested. This would be a big step up from phones like the OnePlus Ace Pro 2, REDMAGIC 8S Pro, and Realme GT 5 which already have 24GB of RAM.
Having a lot of RAM can help with multitasking and using heavy apps. Some people think phones with tons of RAM could be good for connecting the phone to a computer screen and using it like a mini PC. But most people probably don’t need more than 8 or 12GB of RAM for normal phone things.
We don’t know which phone brands are testing 32GB RAM phones yet. It’s likely gaming phone makers or brands that already made 24GB phones. We probably won’t see 32GB phones for sale in places like the US or Europe anytime soon since even 24GB phones haven’t launched outside of China yet.
It will be interesting to see if 32GB phones really happen. Right now it seems like more RAM than anyone would reasonably need in a smartphone. But brands always want to push the limits so we may see some crazy high-RAM phones in the future!
