How Apple Plans to Add Smart AI Features to Its Products

How Apple Plans to Add Smart AI Features

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, Apple was surprised by the recent boom in generative AI. However, they are working hard to catch up. Craig Federighi, John Giannandrea and Eddy Cue from Apple are spearheading efforts to bring artificial intelligence to their products and services. Some exciting AI upgrades are in development for the iPhone, Siri, Apple Music and more.

iOS 18 may see smarter reply suggestions when messaging friends. Apple Music could gain AI-generated playlists that are tailored to your tastes. Apple aims to develop a more intelligent version of Siri due out next year too. Mac apps like Pages and Keynote could benefit from AI features down the line as well.

Apple wants to keep pace with the bleeding-edge AI work at OpenAI, Google and Microsoft. They will invest around $1 billion each year in AI innovations. Beyond consumer apps, Apple is exploring how to apply AI to streamline tasks for developers in Xcode. This could include code completion similar to GitHub Copilot. AppleCare tools may also benefit from artificial intelligence power-ups.

When deciding whether features rely on device-based or cloud-powered AI, Apple will take a case-by-case approach. Some may run locally for maximum privacy while others need remote servers for sophisticated capabilities.

Overall, Apple has big plans to integrate cutting-edge artificial intelligence across its product lineup. Exciting AI upgrades are in the works to enhance the consumer and developer experience.
