In discussing the inspiration for the original 1987 Metal Gear game, series creator Hideo Kojima has often referred to the limitations of the MSX2 system. Since the machine could only display a limited number of sprites and scrolling graphics were limited, the designer decided to instead focus on stealth gameplay that would define Metal Gear.
Now gamers can enjoy classics from the beloved series like never before with the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. This massive collection includes games from 1987 to 2004, covering some fan favorites from Metal Gear’s history. Games included are the original Metal Gear 1 and 2, Metal Gear Solid 1-3, and more!
While the games were designed with different hardware in mind over the decades, the developers have worked hard to adapt them well. Button inputs are updated to match modern controllers seamlessly. Graphics and controls have been tweaked for modern systems too. Metal Gear Solid in particular sticks closely to its PS1 roots for an authentic experience. Later entries, like MGS2 and 3, utilize improved HD remasters. Optional extras like widescreen support would be nice for MGS1 fans.
Beyond just the games, you get bonus extras. Digital soundtracks, background information books, and more give insight into the Metal Gear world. It’s great to finally have so much of the series’ story consolidated in one place!
