Google’s New Chatbot Launch Delayed

At I/O 2023, Google announced Gemini as its next-generation chatbot. Gemini was originally supposed to launch next week, but has now been delayed until January, according to a report. Google wants to make sure Gemini can talk to people in many languages before launching it to the public.

The news website The Information said Google planned big events for next week in California, New York and Washington D.C. to introduce Gemini. But Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai decided to delay the launch. He wants Gemini to handle questions in all languages as well as chatbots from other companies like OpenAI’s GPT-4. Some languages still need more work.

Pichai said in November that getting Gemini version 1.0 out was the priority. It needs to be the most advanced chatbot available. Engineers are still finalizing the main version of Gemini. At I/O, Google showed how Gemini can understand text, images and more. They also want Gemini to easily work with other apps and services of all sizes.

The big question now is when Google will start using Gemini in their own products and services. Places like Google Search, Chat and the Workspace office apps would benefit from an easy to use chatbot. Google delayed the launch so Gemini will be helpful for more people worldwide, in their preferred language.
