OpenAI’s Secret Project Q* Revealed as Potentially Dangerous AI Breakthrough

The drama around OpenAI seemed to end when Sam Altman returned as CEO. But a new report reveals there may be more to the story. According to the report, Altman was originally removed from his role as CEO because of concerns over a scary new AI.

In a letter to OpenAI’s old board of directors, some researchers warned about a powerful new artificial intelligence being developed. When asked about the letter, OpenAI did not comment on it. But in a message to employees, OpenAI acknowledged the letter and said they have a project called Q* that the letter was about.

Q* stands for Q-star and may be a big breakthrough in general artificial intelligence, known as AGI. AGI is when a machine can do most tasks better than humans. The Q* model reportedly solved some hard math problems, making researchers think it could be very smart. But the researchers said in their letter that it could also be dangerous if not controlled.

The researchers’ letter came after OpenAI combined two teams – one that worked on making AI better at understanding language, and one that worked on math skills. This new combined team was trying to improve how AI reasons and can even do science work on its own.

According to another report, Altman has agreed to an internal investigation into what really led to him losing his job as CEO. The old board said he wasn’t honest with them. But they never said publicly why they thought that. We’ll have to wait to see what else comes out about OpenAI’s possibly scary new discovery and what really happened with Altman.
