The Samsung Galaxy A55: A Minor Update With One Strange Design Choice

As Samsung’s lineup of smartphones has become increasingly similar, the upcoming Galaxy A55 won’t differ much from the Galaxy A54 as far as design is concerned.

New leaked images show that the Samsung Galaxy A55 will look almost identical to the Galaxy A54 released earlier this year. The renders from reliable leakers OnLeaks and MySmartPrice give us our first look at the upcoming budget phone.

At first glance, the Galaxy A55 has the same flat back and flat front display as the A54. It also keeps the triple rear camera stacked vertically inside a square bump. The screen features a center punch hole for the selfie camera, just like the A54. The dimensions are practically the same too.

However, one strange difference stands out. While the A54 had slightly rounded sides, the A55 appears to have completely flat polished edges. But more oddly, there is a protrusion that sticks out around the power and volume buttons on the right edge. This bump adds an extra 0.6mm of thickness just to that part of the already thicker phone. It’s an unusual design choice that draws extra attention to the buttons.

Other than this protrusion, the leaks don’t reveal any noteworthy upgrades over the A54. Samsung is expected to release the A55 in early 2023, following a similar timeline as the A54’s debut last April. With such minor expected changes, the A55 may not be the most exciting update for budget Samsung fans. Unless that peculiar button bump transforms how users interact with the phone, it seems to be an incremental update focused more on design consistency than innovation.
