Among the top camera phones are Apple and Google. They are known for their great photo skills, and their new iPhone 15 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro phones keep that going. What should a photography lover buy if they have $999 to spend?
These two phones both have nice camera sets with the main, ultra-wide and zoom lenses. But which one takes better photos in different situations? I tested them out to find the answer.
Colors and Brightness
Pixel photos look more natural with muted colors. iPhone photos have bolder colors that “pop” more but sometimes look too yellow. The iPhone can also underexpose sometimes, making pictures too dark.
Details
Both get fuzzy details when zooming in close. The Pixel keeps more details in low light and zoom shots.
Wide Angle
The Pixel takes slightly wider pictures but both have blurry edges. The iPhone photos were sometimes too dark.
Zoom
The Pixel zoom is much better. Its 5x photos are very sharp while the iPhone gets fuzzy after 3x. The Pixel is best for faraway shots.
Portraits and Selfies
The iPhone keeps faces brighter against light backgrounds better. But the Pixel colors match skin tones nicer. Both take great selfies.
Night Photos
In the dark, the iPhone keeps colors better but the Pixel has less noise and artifacts.
Which is Best?
Overall, the Pixel is more reliable across different situations. The iPhone pictures sometimes look too yellow, dark or fuzzy. The Pixel is $100 cheaper too. So for photography lovers on a $999 budget, the Google Pixel 8 Pro is the best choice.
