OPPO’s New Phone Might Have Satellite Connectivity

We’ve all heard about phones that can connect to satellites instead of just cell towers. This could be really helpful if you’re ever in an emergency in a rural area with no cell service. Qualcomm was working on satellite connectivity for Android phones but cancelled those plans. Now it seems OPPO may give us this feature sooner than we thought!

OPPO announced that their next flagship phone, likely the Find X7 Pro, will support talking to satellites. They didn’t share many specifics though. We don’t know when it might come out or which countries it will work in. OPPO also doesn’t say which company is providing the satellite technology since it won’t be Qualcomm anymore.

There’s a chance the new Find X7 Pro phone will only be able to connect to satellites in certain areas even if it does launch worldwide. Big phone makers like Apple limited satellite calling to the US when they added it. And since OPPO made the announcement in China, the satellite connectivity may initially just work there too.

We’ll need to wait and see if OPPO brings this satellite feature to more global markets through the Find X7 Pro or other phones. Fingers crossed they do, so more people have access to this backup communication option during emergencies without cell service. It’s an exciting development to hear a mainstream brand like OPPO is exploring satellite connectivity. With any luck, their work could help accelerate getting this tech into the hands of Android users everywhere.
