Microsoft Wants to Know: Why Are You Quitting OneDrive?

OneDrive works really well if you use Microsoft Office a lot or need cloud storage for work. It also connects nicely with Windows 11 since Microsoft made it. But OneDrive may not be the top choice for everyone using Windows 11. Some people close it to free up space on their computer.

It seems Microsoft isn’t too happy about folks quitting OneDrive though. The latest update now stops you from closing OneDrive without giving a reason first. You have to pick from a list like “I don’t want it running all the time” or “It sends too many notifications.”

If you don’t select one, the “Quit OneDrive” button won’t work at all. That sure does seem annoying! Microsoft must really want to know what’s making people leave OneDrive.

The update is available in OneDrive version 23.214.1015.0001. You may want to avoid updating if you don’t want to deal with the prompt. Windows 11 also pops up friendly reminders to set up OneDrive backup now.

It’s clear Microsoft is pushing OneDrive integration on Windows 11 hard. However, forcing feedback when quitting might drive some users away. Only time will tell if this tactic helps OneDrive or frustrates more people into finding an alternative. Let’s see if Microsoft backs off the required explanations after the feedback starts rolling in!
