Magic Compose Disappears from Google Messages

Despite a flurry of new features rolling out this week, it appears that Magic Compose is no longer available on Google Messages. On phones running the latest beta version of Messages, the Magic Compose option is missing from conversation threads.

Usually, Magic Compose would show up on the left side of text boxes to provide suggestions as you type. But now that area is empty. When checking the app settings, the “Magic Compose” toggle is still there but turning it on or off does nothing.

It seems Google may have accidentally removed Magic Compose. Since it was still a labs feature in testing, the company could likely fix it with an update from their servers.

Some good news is that device pairing with your Google account is now working better. Before it was only available on one device, but now more people can sign in and connect their phones and tablets. The process looks similar to using QR codes.

The voice recording tool was also updated recently. My phone now shows a waveform design in the corner instead of a microphone when tapping to record. Others have a redesigned recording screen too with new playback controls.

Lastly, Google Messages added a handy “Unread” label that clearly shows new messages that came in while you were away. This helps you easily see what’s new without searching through old texts.

It’s hoped Google will restore Magic Compose soon through an app update. In the meantime, users have these other new features to enjoy on the constantly improving Messages app. Stay tuned for more updates!
