Take Control of Your Thread Quotes

It is now possible for thread users to exert more control over who can quote their posts. There are already features in Threads that allow users to limit who can reply to their posts (competing services like X and Bluesky do the same). Threads announced last month that they would add controls for quotes too. Now the quote controls are ready for all Threads users!

The head of Threads, Adam Mosseri, said the new quote controls are live. You can choose who can see your quotes on Threads. You have three options: anyone, only people you follow, or only people you mention. This makes it harder for people to “dunk” on you. Dunking is when someone quotes your post to make fun of you or make you look silly to their followers.

Some people say dunking is fun and how they tell friends about silly posts. That’s okay, too! You can still take screenshots of posts you don’t like and share them with commentary. The quote controls just mean the original post is less likely to go viral from people dunking on it. And the person who posted doesn’t have to see people being mean about their post if they don’t want to.

Take Back Control of Your Threads Experience with Quote Controls

This gives users more power over their online interactions and experiences on the Threads social media platform. The feature update is a welcome change that improves privacy and limits unwanted attention on the app.
