Google Messages for Computer Gets New Look and Moving Emojis

With updated branding and animated emojis, Google Messages for web has been rolled out widely on Android. It adds a four-color ‘G’ in front of “Messages” in the top-left corner of the web and tablet experiences. The company is working hard to cement its consumer messaging strategy by explicitly linking RCS (and SMS) to Google.

Now when you use Google Messages on your computer, you’ll see a change to the logo on the top left. It more clearly shows that Google is behind the messaging service. Emojis in chats are also getting an update. Certain emojis like grinning and crying faces will now move around when you send them from your phone.

This change brings the computer and tablet versions of Google Messages in line with updates released for Android phones back in June. On mobile, select emojis were given small animations to make them more fun. Now those same moving emojis are available no matter if you view chats on your phone, computer or tablet. The animation will play for a few seconds before stopping.

Google continues improving Messages to be people’s main way to communicate. By highlighting its brand and adding new emoji features across all devices, the company wants messaging through Google to provide a consistent, engaging experience whether on the go or at a desktop. Only time will tell if these upgrades help Google Messages become more popular worldwide. But for now, computer and tablet users can enjoy an updated look and moving emojis too!
