Sending Messages from Anywhere with Emoji Magic

With Google Messages, it’s easier to pair your phone and send messages from the web browser, and emojis make it even more fun. Google is updating how you connect your phone and computer for messaging on the go. Soon you won’t need to scan QR codes to pair your devices anymore.

Google Messages is making it simpler to send and receive texts from anywhere. Right now, if you want to message from your laptop you have to sync it by scanning a barcode with your phone each time. Some people with Google Fi already can just log into their account to connect devices. Tablets with the Messages app also let you message from a bigger screen.

Now Google is testing a new way to pair that uses your Google Account instead of scanning. In a recent update, I found a button to “switch to account pairing.” It says to just sign in to the same Google Account in the browser app to connect your devices. This should make it much quicker to send sms from any computer.

For security, Google still needs you to confirm the pairing on your phone. But instead of a code, it will show an emoji! The browser will display a fun symbol and your phone prompts you to “tap the matching emoji” to allow that computer access. I think this makes confirming the connection more engaging. If the emoji method isn’t accessible, it will offer a numeric code as an alternative.

Google also warns you if an unknown device is logged into your account. You can check your account security and sign out of any computers you don’t recognize, just in case someone else tried to hijack your account. With account pairing and emoji confirmation, sending messages from your computer should soon be faster and more fun than ever before!
