The DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 is already really useful with its speakers, microphone, touchpad, and vibrations. But Sony might make their next controller even better! They filed a patent to turn it into an earbud charging case.
According to the patent, Sony wants the next controller to hold and charge wireless earbuds. It would have a slot on the back, front, or sides to put the earbuds in. Then they would charge up while on the controller.
The controller would also connect, or pair, the earbuds to your PS5. Once the earbuds are paired to the controller, they are paired to your whole system. This makes it very easy to use the earbuds with your games.
Sony says the earbuds and controller could work together in new ways too. For example, they might use the controller’s microphone and earbud speakers together. This could help locate where sounds are coming from in games. It would make the audio quality even better.
Of course, Sony applying for a patent doesn’t mean they will make this controller for sure. They’ve patented ideas before that never happened. But it’s interesting to think about! Sony also just released two pairs of gaming earbuds. So this controller could be a great way to use them while playing on PS5.
Only time will tell if Sony’s supercharged controller becomes real. But a controller that doubles as an earbud charger sounds very handy for gamers!
