Play Your PS5 Games Anywhere With Sony's New PlayStation Portal

Later this year, Sony is launching its portable PlayStation, the PlayStation Portal. With an eight-inch LCD screen and 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second, the handheld can stream PS5 games over Wi-Fi. Sony says the PlayStation Portal will be available later this year priced at $199.99.

The PlayStation Portal has controls that look like the signature DualSense controllers. They support all the PS5 controller features like haptics and adaptive triggers. This means games will feel just as immersive on the handheld screen.

To play games, you just need to have them installed on your PS5 console first. Then any PS5 title will stream remotely to the PlayStation Portal over your home Wi-Fi network. Reviewers say the streaming works great with little latency during gameplay.

Unfortunately, you can’t use the cloud version of PS Plus games on it though. The Portal also lacks Bluetooth, but it does have a custom PlayStation Link wireless standard for accessories. Thankfully a headphone jack is included too.

The Portal’s battery is still being finalized, but Sony estimates around 7-9 hours per charge. A mirroring home screen and media playback give it versatility beyond just games.

By bringing PS5 games anywhere, the PlayStation Portal gives gamers flexible new options. At $199 it offers portable PlayStation power without the high cost of other handhelds.
