WhatsApp Passkeys Make Account Access Easier for iPhone Users

iPhone users will soon be able to use passkeys, following the release of passkeys on Android last October. Essentially, this feature replaces SMS login codes. Those without cellular coverage can access their WhatsApp accounts on new phones through biometric authentication.

Setting up a WhatsApp passkey on an iPhone is simple. Just enable the feature in settings, create a passkey using Touch ID or Face ID, and it will sync between your Apple devices.

Despite common beliefs, passkeys alone don’t strengthen security currently. Your phone number could still be used to take over your account. 2FA through a passcode is still the best protection.

The convenient new option helps when phone signals are unavailable. Although not a magic security bullet, passkeys ensure hassle-free WhatsApp access anywhere iPhones are present.

Meta continues refining the WhatsApp experience across platforms. This latest pass brings iOS in line with Android to streamline universal logins going forward. iPhone owners can appreciate simplified registration thanks to passkeys’ arrival.
