WhatsApp Testing Two Handy New Features

WhatsApp is working on a couple of major feature updates. There is one that lets users share files over a local network and another that lets users jot down notes for contacts.

One feature spotted in beta testing is local file sharing. Users would be able to send photos, videos and documents to nearby contacts without using mobile data or WiFi. You just enable a setting to be discovered by close friends. Files transfer securely between smartphones using encryption.

Screenshots also showed permissions for local network sharing. Users have full control and can revoke access anytime. This makes it very easy to quickly send large media files wirelessly to someone right in front of you.

The other upgrade allows adding notes to people in your address book. These private memos save important details about contacts for easy reference later. Best of all, notes can be viewed on WhatsApp Web too.

Both perks are still being road-tested. If testers find them helpful, we’ll see an official rollout down the line. Stay tuned for fast, local file transfers and a smarter way to manage your contacts on WhatsApp!
