WhatsApp is introducing a new way to find old chats. The app will now let Android users search for individual or group conversations by the date. People using iPhones, Mac computers, or WhatsApp online already had this ability.
To use it, open a one-on-one or group chat. Click the search button and then the calendar icon. This will show you any messages from that day. You can see photos, links, or files sent on a certain date.
WhatsApp has been testing other ways to find chats. In December, they experimented with filters like “All Chats”, “Unread”, “Contacts”, and “Groups”. This would make certain chats easier to find. Earlier this year, they worked on a “Favorites” filter for starred messages.
Last week, WhatsApp added new options for formatting text. You can now make bulleted lists, numbered lists, quotations, and code text stand out in chats. These updates apply to both individual and group conversations.
The company’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, showed how the new “search by date” works in a video. He looked for an old chat about karaoke singing from the past. With this feature, WhatsApp makes those buried memories much simpler to rediscover on your phone.
