Could WhatsApp Stories Get an Engaging Update?

Many users around the world continue to use WhatsApp as their preferred instant messenger. Although the service works very well as an IM app, it has ambitions that go beyond just texting. To get users engaged and spending more time on their app, most IM apps today offer features like stories and channels. WhatsApp could be revisiting how it presents its Stories feature to users, making it easier for them to learn more from just a glance.

A Potentially Improved Story Browsing Experience
WhatsApp may be testing changes to how users view stories on the app. The updates tab could switch to a horizontal scrolling view similar to Instagram. This would show large previews of the first unseen story from each contact. Currently, it’s harder to browse stories without opening each one.

Easier Skimming Through Stories
The redesign would focus more on the story content in the previews rather than just contact names. Users could quickly glance at thumbnails to see what they missed, without having to tap into every story. This makes it simpler to catch up on updates from many contacts at once.

Not Available Yet but Probably Coming
The new story preview layout has not been rolled out officially. However, WhatsApp is known for testing interface tweaks first with beta users. If well received, it could launch broadly in a future app update. Keep an eye out for any browse improvements that make Stories easier to enjoy on WhatsApp!

In summary, WhatsApp may give its Stories a refresh to encourage more engagement. Larger previews that let users skim content could be a step in the right direction. Only time will tell if such an update does indeed arrive on the popular messaging platform.
