New Battery Charging Feature Coming to iPhones

New Battery Charging Feature Coming to iPhones

Recently, iPhone 14 series owners have expressed concern over battery health. Apple appears to be implementing a feature seen on Android phones to slow battery degradation. In the iOS 17 release candidate software, 9to5Mac found evidence of a new battery charging feature. Instead of charging to 100%, the iPhone would only charge to a given percentage.

This feature works similar to options on ASUS and Samsung phones. ASUS phones let you choose to stop charging at 80% or 90%. Samsung’s Protect Battery feature only charges phones to 85%. OnePlus is also making a mode that halts charging at 80%.

Charging all the way to 100% can put more wear on the battery over time. This new iPhone setting would let you customize how fully charged your battery gets. It should help batteries last longer before needing replacement.

Not everyone charges their phone to the max every time. Now you can avoid overcharging which is better for battery health long term. The feature may be exclusive to iPhone 15 models or come to older iPhones later through a software update.
