More Twists and Turns in the OpenAI Story

Just when it seemed the drama around ChatGPT creators OpenAI was over, there’s been another surprising development. Yesterday Microsoft hired OpenAI’s former CEO, Sam Altman. But now it looks like he still wants his old job back at OpenAI!

Even stranger, one of the people who signed a petition for change at OpenAI was actually the director believed to have fired Altman. Over 70% of OpenAI staff signed a letter asking the board of directors to resign. They threatened to join Altman at Microsoft if changes weren’t made.

This all started when news broke that Altman was no longer the CEO of OpenAI. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella then announced Altman would be working with them. But Altman hinted he wasn’t finished with OpenAI yet. Reports say he’s trying to get his old position back, assuming the board members who fired him leave.

In an interview, Nadella reaffirmed Microsoft’s commitment to partnering with OpenAI, Altman and the research team. He said they want to support OpenAI’s mission no matter where Altman or others end up. Nadella was surprised by Altman’s firing and wants more transparency from OpenAI going forward.

So while Microsoft remains committed to OpenAI, the future leadership there is still unclear. It’s becoming quite the corporate soap opera! Stay tuned for what’s next in this ongoing story between the two AI powerhouses.
