During the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 launch, the two companies announced a partnership to bring more AI to Android devices. A state-of-the-art foundation AI model will be run by Google on Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU. These are likely the same foundation models that power AI features such as on-device recorder summaries, Smart Reply in Gboard, and Video Boost.
Google’s AI models will run on the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. This will allow more Android phones to use AI without needing an internet connection. Some tasks that currently need internet access, like summarizing voice recordings or suggesting text replies, will work directly on the phone thanks to Google’s AI models.
