Google gives Android apps and logo a refresh just before Android 14

Google gives Android apps and logo a refresh just before Android 14

Google has released updates to some of its popular mobile apps and services. This includes changes to the At a Glance widget from Google Assistant, improvements to the Lookout accessibility app, and allowing Zoom calls in Android Auto.

Along with updates to apps, Google is also giving Android a refreshed logo. The logo letters will now be capitalized like the Google logo for better branding consistency. The robot icon will have a 3D look and come in different colorful styles depending on its use. However, the new “furry” robot style may not be to everyone’s liking.

The At a Glance widget on your home screen will get a design makeover. It will now provide more details about upcoming events, travel plans, and local weather forecasts. Wallet is being updated too to easily add passes and tickets by importing photos. Lookout, which describes what’s on your screen for those with low vision, will recognize scenes and objects better while allowing follow-up questions.

Android Auto will gain the ability to join and use audio for Zoom or Webex calls when connected to your car. This could help people take business calls safely on the road.

More announcements are expected from Google this fall. Their hardware launch event is scheduled for October 4th when the new Pixel 8 phone may be unveiled. We should also see the full release of the latest Android 14 software version around then. In the meantime, the usual Pixel leaks online will give us early glimpses of what’s to come.

Overall, this update bundles small but useful improvements across Google’s services and prepares Android branding for the next software release. Users can enjoy enhanced productivity and accessibility features from the comfort of familiar apps.
