Google's AI Search Comes to More Countries

While Google has been testing their new AI search features with some users, they are now making it available to more people worldwide. Their “Search Generative Experience” or SGE for short uses artificial intelligence to give overview summaries of articles, highlight important points, and make local area and travel recommendations directly in search results.

This new AI search is now coming to users in India and Japan. People in these countries can opt into Google’s “Search Labs” program to try out the features. Indians will see summaries and recommendations in both English and Hindi languages. The AI search also understands voice commands for Indian users.

Google is also improving the overview summaries. Links related to the topic will now be included but hidden below a down arrow in the summary section. This updated overview feature will start in the United States and reach India and Japan in the coming weeks.

The expansion shows that while other big tech brands like Microsoft were early with generative AI, Google has been testing it out and is now widening its availability. As computer chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek also add on-device AI capabilities, our smartphones in 2024 will offer even smarter search and assistance thanks to this improving technology.

Overall, this move gets more people access to Google’s AI search tools that aim to highlight key details and provide localized advice directly in the results. It will be interesting to see how users in these new markets interact with and benefit from the generative artificial intelligence.
