Google Ends Pixel Pass without Upgrading Phones – What You Need to Know

Google offers a subscription called Pixel Pass that lets people get a Pixel phone, storage, and services each month. People who signed up thought they could get a new Pixel after two years. But now Google says it will stop Pixel Pass.

Pixel Pass started in 2021, when Google sold the Pixel 6 phone. For $45–55 each month, you get the Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, Google One storage, YouTube Premium, and some other services. Google said people could get a new Pixel after two years.

But recently, Google sent emails to people on Pixel Pass. They said Pixel Pass will stop, and no one can sign up for it now. They will only let current customers keep it for the next 2 years until their subscription ends.

People were upset because they joined Pixel Pass thinking they could get the latest Pixel after 2 years. But now that option is gone. And it’s happening just before Google shows off its new Pixel 8 phones in October.

The good thing is that Pixel Pass customers still get the services they paid for until their subscription ends in 2 years. But they cannot upgrade to a new Pixel phone through Google.

Google says don’t worry though; you can still upgrade after 2 years by financing a new Pixel directly from Google or their partner Synchrony Bank. But you won’t get to keep Pixel Pass.

Many feel disappointed because Google led them to believe Pixel Pass included easy upgrades every two years. But now they find out after almost two years that that won’t happen.

The key things to know are that Pixel Pass is ending, current subscribers can keep it for now with no new sign-ups, and upgrades to new Pixels are no longer included after 2 years through this program. People will have to arrange financing on their own to get a new phone.
