Gemini on Android Can’t Recognize Songs – A Major Letdown

There’s no doubt now that Google’s Gemini chatbot was rushed out the door. As a result of Gemini’s since-removed image generator, people of color were portrayed wearing Nazi-era uniforms. Furthermore, the chatbot’s commentary continues to be absurd, such as equating Hitler’s record with Elon Musk’s memes.

One of the most frustrating aspects of using Gemini is that it cannot identify songs on Android devices. As someone who regularly uses song recognition features, this is a big problem. On my older Samsung phone, I rely on Google Assistant for tasks through a minimal home screen launcher. Song ID was so handy for remembering tracks I heard out.

Google Assistant provides accurate song recognition with just a voice command. No need to open apps. But Gemini seems unfinished on Android. It does not offer song identification and suggests using other apps instead. Even though I pay for the top-tier Google One plan, Gemini lacks basic functions.

Broken song recognition makes Gemini a poor substitute for Google Assistant. It was disappointing to discover this shortcoming, especially as a feature I used frequently. I hope Google can update Gemini to match Assistant’s capabilities. In the meantime, Android users will have to rely on other apps for song identification.

With some bugs and missing features, Gemini needs more work before it truly replaces Google Assistant. With some polish, it has potential. But for now, song recognition is just one example of how Gemini falls short on Android.
