Apple’s AirTag trackers work really well at finding lost items. They connect to millions of iPhones to detect where a lost item is. No other tracker can do this. Google is trying to copy it with Find My Device on Android. But this feature still needs more work to do what AirTag does.
Until then, AirTag will stay the top item tracker. Apple knows just how good AirTag is too. That’s why they may wait to release the next AirTag.
Reports say Apple planned to launch the AirTag 2 in 2024 at first. But now they want to hold off until 2025. Even though AirTag sells well with no real competition.
Apple also has a problem – too much stock of the original AirTag left! Their stores and warehouses still have lots of extra AirTags sitting around unsold.
Since AirTags last so long on one battery before needing replaced, people don’t buy them very often. You only need a new one if you lose the item it’s attached too. Or the AirTag itself breaks.
For AirTag 2, it seems Apple wants to upgrade the wireless chip inside. This would make it work better with the newest iPhones and Apple Watches. Rumors say AirTag 2 may use the next version of Apple’s UWB wireless tech.
So if you’re waiting for the new and improved AirTag 2, it looks like you have a while to wait still. The first AirTag works amazingly well at finding lost items. It remains the top choice for now.
