Will the iPhone 16 Rely on Software More Than Hardware?

The iPhone 15 series brought new chipsets, Dynamic Island cutouts, action buttons on the Pro models, and USB-C for the first time. Additionally, the Pro Max model came with a folded zoom camera for the first time, catching up with the best Android devices.

Now, reports say the iPhone 16 may not get big hardware upgrades in 2024. Apple insider Mark Gurman says the company will focus more on the software to sell the new phones.

Gurman says Apple is working on new features for iOS 18, which will launch on the iPhone 16. The software may include “generative AI”, which creates images, summarizes documents and translates conversations in real-time like Samsung phones can now.

Besides AI, iOS 18 will hopefully have lots of other useful upgrades and bug fixes. Apple delayed iOS updates to polish them up after recent issues. They’ll need iOS 18 to impress people and replace any missing iPhone 16 hardware features.

Rumors say the iPhone 16 Pro might get a better camera zoom and tweaked Dynamic Island look. But it seems Apple wants to sell the phone more through groundbreaking iOS 18 features than hardware tricks this time. Will powerful new software convince people to buy the iPhone 16? We’ll have to wait for iOS 18 to find out!
