WhatsApp has long kept the same look, but a new beta update is bringing significant changes to how the app looks. Through its test program on Google Play, WhatsApp is now trying out version 2.23.18.18. According to the website WABetaInfo, this test version includes a redesigned user interface (UI) with many visual tweaks.
The update mainly changes two areas: the top bar and the bottom bar. In the past, the top bar was green, but it will now turn white. The WhatsApp logo also gets a new font and switches to a green font color. Below the chat list, a bottom bar will house the buttons to access chats, status, community features, and calls.
Another difference is the addition of filters for the chat list. Users will be able to sort their conversations as all, unread, personal, or business. This should make it easier to find the right chats.
The changes don’t stop with Android, either. Similar adjustments are underway for the iOS version too. This means both apps may end up looking very similar once the redesign launches to everyone.
It’s unclear when exactly WhatsApp plans to roll out this makeover. The update comes just two weeks after they introduced higher-quality photos. For now, beta testers can check out the fresh new design early as WhatsApp gears up to refresh its popular app for the future.
