Meta’s Twitter/X rival, Threads is growing steadily. The social network now has more than 150 million monthly active users – up from 130 million in February, Zuckerberg said during the company’s Q1 2024 earnings call.

Threads took steps this quarter to integrate better with other decentralized social networks. It allowed sharing posts publicly on Mastodon and other ActivityPub platforms. Plans are also in place to release its API to developers by June for new app experiences.

Additional useful features were introduced like auto-archiving posts after a set period. Users also gained control over archiving or highlighting individual messages. These ongoing product updates enhance the Threads experience.

Despite exclusion from Meta’s AI chatbot launch across its family of apps, Threads daily U.S. users now outnumber the figures reported for Twitter rival X. As Threads approaches its first anniversary, momentum continues gradually building for the socially-conscious alternative.

While not positioned as a direct news source, Threads provides a growing community where ideas and conversations can take place freely. Under Meta’s leadership, Threads is firmly establishing itself as a leader among decentralized social networks worldwide.
