Apple Lets You Play Old Games on Your Phone

With Friday’s update, Apple added an option for users to download retro console games via emulators in its App Store. However, the company warned that developers are responsible for adhering to copyright laws.

Before this change, gamers could only play retro games on Android phones. Now iPhone users can enjoy classics too! Developers who make emulators can bring their apps to the Apple Store.

Emulators let you play games made for older consoles like Nintendo or PlayStation on your phone. Apple said these apps must offer in-app purchases to download games. This gives Apple a cut of sales and is important since they changed rules due to new laws.

As well as emulators, Apple is allowing other types of game apps. You’ll be able to get mini-games, games that stream from the cloud, chatbots and plugins. This makes the App Store better for gamers.

Last month some rules changed so Spotify and other music apps can show subscription prices on iPhones in Europe. But Spotify says Apple hasn’t approved its update yet. They want Apple to follow the new competition laws fully.

With Apple opening up retro games and more types of apps, iPhone users have more choices for enjoying classics and finding new games. Developers also have better options to reach customers. It seems new laws are helping make app stores fairer for all.
