Ecosia Launches Browser to Help More Trees Grow

To expand its online presence, Ecosia, a search engine that funds tree-planting initiatives with a portion of its search ad profits, has launched a new cross-platform browser. The browser is available on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android.

Ecosia built its browser using the open source Chromium project, which is also what Google Chrome uses. This means the browsing experience will be familiar to Chrome users. However, Ecosia allows customizing the homepage and removing sections.

The company’s Chief Product Officer said they want to “go where users are” to increase their environmental impact. Their search engine supports planting trees, but a browser reaches more people browsing the web too.

Through the new browser, Ecosia is starting an affiliate shopping program. Users will see shopping links and Ecosia gets a portion of sales to plant more trees. They aim to generate renewable energy for each user each day.

In future, Ecosia plans to improve shopping and integrate their chatbot. They also want more customization options.

Their first targets are the 20 million people already using their search engine. Ecosia hopes converting them to the browser helps nature even more. Stay tuned for this growing company’s next moves in online sustainability!
