In December 2013, Pete Lau and Carl Pei (who now leads Nothing) founded OnePlus, which is celebrating its 10th birthday. Since the OnePlus One made its debut in April of the following year, that’s not the brand’s first anniversary. As part of the celebration, OnePlus has announced that they will launch their new flagship phone, the OnePlus 12, on December 4th.
OnePlus announced the launch date on Weibo, which is a social media platform in China. They said the OnePlus 12 will be the “flagphone of the decade”. This means it will be their best phone of the 2020s so far. Many people expected the phone to launch in January, like last year’s OnePlus 11, but now we know it’s coming a month earlier, on December 4th.
In the Weibo post, OnePlus founder Pete Lau was pictured next to a clock showing the number 12 and the number 10 behind him. This was a fun way for them to hint at the phone’s name and model number while also representing their 10-year anniversary.
However, the December 4th event will only be for the China launch of the OnePlus 12. In the past two years, OnePlus has also done separate global launch events a month or two later. So we may see another announcement in January for an international release.
The OnePlus 12 is rumored to have big upgrades, like the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor for better speed. It may also bring back wireless charging that some fans missed on the OnePlus 11. New camera features and a fresher design are also expected.
