Microsoft is revamping its Snipping Tool and Photos app with useful features for copying text from screenshots and blurring backgrounds. Updated versions of the Snipping Tool and Photos apps for Windows 11 are now available to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels.

The new Snipping Tool makes it easy to copy text from screenshots. It can detect text in screen grabs and let you paste it into other apps. This works like how phones let you copy text from photos. Snipping Tool also has a privacy feature. It can hide phone numbers and email addresses when you share screenshots. You can choose what text to hide before sharing.

The updated Snipping Tool works great with Phone Link. This app displays a notice when your Android takes a picture. Then you can quickly pull that photo into the Snipping Tool. If the photo has text, you can copy it right away.

Photos app changes include background blur. It automatically spots the main subject and blurs the backdrop. You control how much blur there is or which areas are blurred. Photos now lets you search OneDrive pictures by content too. Find cars, vacation snaps, and more just by searching. Location search helps you find photos from specific places as well.

Microsoft is testing these new tools with Windows Insiders. Regular users will probably get them in a few months. Look out for more updates that make copying and editing photos on Windows 11 even better and easier.
