Microsoft Launches Paid Version of Their AI Assistant Copilot

The Edge browser for Android contained code that suggested Microsoft was working on a subscription-based Copilot Pro plan. Microsoft has now made it official and launched this premium plan.

Copilot Pro is Microsoft’s new paid version of their AI assistant Copilot. When using the Edge browser app on Android, some users found code that mentioned a “Copilot Pro” subscription. This hinted that Microsoft might be creating a premium version with extra features.

Now Microsoft has announced Copilot Pro for real. They designed it for people who use Copilot a lot for work or school. Copilot Pro costs $20 each month for each user. For that money, you get some useful upgrades over the regular free Copilot.

First, with Copilot Pro you will get early access to new AI models before most others. Microsoft says the first one will be something called GPT-4 Turbo. Copilot Pro also promises better photo generation abilities. It will allow more and higher quality images to be created each day.

In addition, Copilot Pro users will get early preview of a new tool to customize Copilot according to your needs. Microsoft is building something called Copilot GPT Builder for this. Finally, subscribing gets you Copilot capabilities within Word, Excel, Outlook and other Microsoft 365 apps for personal use.

The $20 monthly fee matches another popular AI assistant called ChatGPT Plus from OpenAI. Both offer upgraded features beyond the free versions. So in summary, if you make heavy use of Copilot for work or school, the Pro subscription may be worthwhile for you.
