TikTok announced yesterday the launch of its “Add to Music app” in 163 new countries, allowing users to add songs playing on clips to Apple Music and Spotify. This new feature will make it really easy for TikTok users all around the world to discover new music and save songs they hear directly to their preferred music streaming apps.
Previously, the “Add to Music” button was only available in a few countries like the US and UK. But now users in places like Albania, Bangladesh, Kenya, Pakistan, Ukraine and more will be able to use it. The button looks like a music note and is shown below each video. Tapping it lets you choose Apple Music, Spotify or Amazon Music to save the song.
If you don’t pick a playlist, the songs will go to a default list. For example, on Spotify they’ll get added to your “Liked Songs”. This feature is great because you don’t have to search or try to remember the name of a song you hear – you can just save it with one click directly to your music library!
Music discovery on social media is really big. Spotify knows people find new music on apps like TikTok so they partnered with them to make adding songs easy. They’ve also done this with other platforms like Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter.
TikTok also has its own music service called TikTok Music that is available in countries like Australia, Brazil and Indonesia. They said they are working on integrating the “Add to Music” button with TikTok Music too soon.
