Meta announced on Thursday that it had begun testing drafts and an in-app camera, two of the “most requested” features. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, only a small number of users have access to both features. The tests aim to make Threads more useful and engaging for its growing base of over 130 million active users.
The drafts feature allows users to write a post but save it for later instead of sharing it right away. Currently you can only save one draft at a time. When writing a new post, a saved draft will show as a different icon at the bottom. This way you’ll know you have an unfinished post in your drafts folder.
The new in-app camera shortcut cuts out some steps. Now when you tap the camera button, your photo will go straight into the posting screen. This should make it faster to share those candid photos. It’s not clear yet if you can edit pictures before sharing though.
Meta is also experimenting with displaying photos on Threads in a scrolling format like Instagram Stories. At the moment, pictures are shown in a rigid grid but it seems this might change to a more free-flowing carousel view.
The testing comes as Meta aims to give Threads users more creative ways to interact on the platform. Last month they rolled out trending topics to discover what’s going viral. Cross-posting from Facebook is also in the early stages.
Overall these drafts and camera updates look to streamline the Threads experience. Only time will tell if they make the app more fun and engaging for its huge community.
