The Pixel Tablet Needs Some TLC in 2024

Google’s first tablet in many years, the Pixel Tablet, had potential but needed work. While it does some things well, like integrating with the Google Home ecosystem, there are also areas where it can be better.

The Pixel Tablet has good bones but did not deliver a complete user experience out of the box. By focusing on being an in-home device first, Google left out things tablet users want on the go, like a keyboard or pen. This limits how people can use their Pixel Tablet. While viewing content at home works great, buyers also want to get things done outside occasionally.

Some parts of the hardware could also be improved. The regular 60 frames per second screen is okay for viewing but can feel outdated for other tasks. Battery life and performance from the Tensor G2 chip could also be better so kids have fun with games for longer. Only selling the tablet bundled with its dock also makes it hard to buy separately later.

Thankfully, Google’s software on the Pixel Tablet is very clean and simple to use compared to other tablet makers. However, the experience is held back by weak hardware in some areas. For 2024, Google needs to bulk up the Pixel Tablet in two ways.

One option is to focus on fixing issues with the current model by selling it without the dock, adding keyboard/pen support, and continuing software enhancements. Two is releasing an updated “Pixel Tablet 2” with a faster chip, better screen, keyboard cover in the box, and maybe different size options. Really, Google just needs to deliver the complete tablet package.

With some improvements in its hardware and accessories, the Pixel Tablet could be the polished Android tablet experience people want. Fans hope Google gives its first tablet lineup in many years a little more love in 2024. What areas do you think Google should prioritize for the next Pixel Tablet?
