Spotify’s Android App Keeps Crashing? Here’s Why and How to Fix It

If your Spotify app crashes constantly on Android lately, you are not alone. As a result of the latest beta update for Spotify for Android, the app crashes a few seconds after it opens. Many Spotify users have reported this frustrating issue after updating to version 8.9.2.169 of the app.

The problem only affects people using the beta version of Spotify’s Android app. When users try to open the app, it will crash within 1-2 seconds. This makes the app completely unusable. Troubleshooting steps like clearing the cache, re-logging in, or reinstalling have not worked for anyone.

Other Spotify fans on Twitter have confirmed facing the same issue. One user said, “My app doesn’t open up I just get a black screen that hangs for a few seconds.” Another added “Ok. I’m not alone. This will be a strange one-hour train ride now.”

The good news is there is a simple fix until Spotify releases an update. Just leave the beta program for the Spotify app in the Google Play Store. Then delete and reinstall the stable version of the app from the store. Keep in mind this will remove any songs or playlists you downloaded for offline use.

In theory, sideloading an older non-beta version of Spotify may work too. However, opting out of the beta is a safer option to get the app working again faster. Spotify has likely been made aware of the issue by now, so hopefully a bug fix update will be soon. Let’s hope it’s resolved before your next party or road trip!

Monitor Spotify’s social media for any announcements about an update. In the meantime, switching to the regular app should save the day.
