Stream Your Spotify Jams from Room to Room with Ease

At the CES tech show last year, Google said they would make it simpler to switch your Spotify music between different devices in your home. Now they are starting to roll out support for Spotify Connect in the Android media switcher. This will help you listen to Spotify however and wherever you want without hassle.

Previously when you wanted to move your Spotify tunes from your phone to a Bluetooth speaker, you had to open the Spotify app each time. Now your connected devices will show up right alongside options like headphones or Google Cast. So you can pick any Spotify Connect speaker or device directly from the media controls on your Android phone without opening the Spotify app.

This should save you time compared to opening separate apps to switch playback. Google is working with Spotify to make device switching on Android as quick and painless as possible.

The media switcher update also means your Spotify listening can seamlessly follow you around the house. For example, start a playlist in the kitchen, continue it on your phone in the yard, and then move to another room and choose your TV with a simple tap.

Google is developing new “media notifications” too, to carry on listening wherever you go. Notifications will pop up asking if you want to transfer music between nearby devices like your phone, TV or car stereo. This works with Spotify and also YouTube Music.

The streamlined Spotify device switching and upcoming media notifications are part of Google’s efforts to make all your media workacross smartphones, speakers, TVs and other gadgets. With any luck, it will soon be easier than ever to rock out to your favorite Spotify tunes wherever you are!
