Stop Instagram From Tracking You Online

Meta, the company that owns Instagram, just made it easier to control what information Instagram gets from the other sites and apps you use. Now you can choose to “disconnect” Instagram when you browse the internet.

When you visit websites that work with Meta, like Facebook, they may tell Instagram things about you. For example, they could share what products you looked at or what ads you saw. Meta gets this data to show you more personalized ads on Instagram.

But now you have more options to limit this tracking. Go to the “Accounts Center” in your Instagram settings. Here you can see which companies are sharing data with Instagram. You can also disconnect specific activities, like stopping a website from sharing what items you looked at with Instagram. Or you can clear out all the collected tracking info in one go.

The Accounts Center also lets you download everything in your Facebook and Instagram accounts at the same time. Before this, you had to download them separately.

This should help you control what information Instagram gets from other places online. Meta wants to make it simpler to choose what data they collect when you browse outside the Instagram app. Hope this helps you limit tracking and adds some extra privacy when using Instagram!
