Staying Safe Online Just Got Easier with Chrome’s New Background Checks

Google’s Safety Check tool, which looks for passwords that may have been stolen, will now work in the background on computers. This means it can check all the time to see if any passwords need to be changed. Checking all the time may help you find passwords you need to update more quickly than just checking when you want to.

The Safety Check also watches for extensions or website permissions that could cause issues. It will notify you in Chrome if anything needs attention. Plus, it can remove permissions for sites you haven’t visited in a while for extra security.

In the future, Google will add new abilities to its tab groups feature as well. Tab groups let you organize many tabs together. Soon you’ll be able to save tab groups to use across different devices, like a laptop and desktop. This could help if you move between computers at home and when traveling for work or fun.

Google also hinted that its new AI system, called Gemini, will start helping Chrome early next year. CEO Sundar Pichai said before that Gemini would come to Chrome. It will be interesting to see exactly how the AI improves the browsing experience.
